MTEN Drops 4-3 Decision To Xavier To Conclude Homestand

Blagoev, Roegner and Coppage claim singles wins
The Marquette University men's tennis team continued the dual campaign on Friday afternoon with a 4-3 loss to Xavier at the Sprovieri Tennis Complex.
The Golden Eagles wrapped up a three-match homestand with Friday's action and will head to Florida next week for the team's annual Spring trip.
"Today was definitely there for the taking and we had some strong individual performances," head coach Jud Shaufler said. "Blake played at a high level and stayed aggressive against adversity and Kristian's toughness allowed him to earn a hard-fought victory."
The Musketeers opened the match by narrowly claiming the valuable doubles point, clinching with a 6-4 win at No. 1 after breaking MU's serve tied 4-4. At No. 3, Evan Glebov and Ivan Vasguez posted a 6-3 win over the XU duo.
The Golden Eagles opened singles play be claiming first-set wins in three of the four matches to start singles, eventually tying the score at 2-2 with straight-set wins by Kristian Blagoev and Blake Roegner at No 2 and No. 1, respectively.
Xavier reclaimed the lead 3-2 with a three-set win at the No. 3 position and the team victory with a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 6.
Sophomore Luke Coppage concluded the day's action with a 6-4, 6-2 win at No. 6 to claim the team's third point.
