The Golden Eagles record their second win of the season
MILWAUKEE, WIS -Â The Marquette University men's tennis team secured their second win of the season on Sunday afternoon defeating Chicago State 7-0.
The Golden Eagles earned the doubles point after Marquette duo, Blake Roegner and Remi St. Laurent clinched a 6-2 win in the first position. The point was clinched with a 6-2 win from Ivan Vazquez and Evan Glebov in the third position.
MU led 1-0 headed into single play and remained in control for the remainder of the match. The first point came from Kristian Blagoev as he took the win over Valdes due to retirement. Both Blagoev and Valdes won one match a piece before the match was called.
Roegner was next for the Golden Eagles as he defeated Hoida 7-5, 6-1 extending Marquette's lead to 3-0. The match was clinched by Clayton Anderson as he also took a straight set victory, defeating Teixeira 6-4, 7-5.
Despite clinching the win 4-0, both teams decided to play out the remaining matches. St. Laurent grabbed the fifth point for the Blue and Gold as he saw his match go into extended sets.St. Laurent took the first set 6-2, but Kunaka responded in the second logging a 6-2 win to force a third. In the third set, both players battled but St. Laurent secured the victory 7-6.
Glebov recorded the sixth point of the match in a 6-0, 6-1 straight set effort against Atkins. The final point came from a straight set victory from Luke Coppage as he defeated Gahagan 6-1, 6-0.
