Marquette welcomes Milwaukee and NIU to Valley Fields for a pair of home matches

The Marquette University women's soccer team (3-0-1, 0-0-0 BIG EAST) returns to Valley Fields this week for a pair of home matches, hosting Milwaukee (1-3-0, 0-0-0 HORIZON) on Thursday, at 6 p.m. CT for the Freshman Tailgate Game before welcoming NIU (1-1-1, 0-0-0 MAC) on Sunday, at 1 p.m. CT.

Last Time Out
Marquette went 1-0-1 last week, remaining unbeaten with a 4-1 win over Truman State on Aug. 19 at Valley Fields. The Golden Eagles jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the opening 25 minutes, with Jocelyn Leigh, Olivia Hernandez and Haley Christianson finding the net. Carly Christopher added to the lead in the 55th minute, scoring from outside the box, before Truman State converted a penalty kick in the 81st minute.

The Golden Eagles closed the week with a 1-1 draw at RV Wisconsin on Sunday in Madison. After the Badgers took a 1-0 lead from the penalty spot, freshman Kaylie Sheehan scored her first career goal in the 79th minute to level the match. Marquette held Wisconsin scoreless over the final 11 minutes to secure the draw and earn its first result in Madison since 2001.

MU Remains Undefeated
Marquette is undefeated through the first four matches of the season (3-0-1) for the first time since 2011, when the Golden Eagles opened the year 4-0-0 with victories over Western Michigan, Northwestern, Saint Louis and RV/#23 Long Beach State.

Marquette went on to win eight of its first nine matches that season, finishing 18-4-0 overall and 10-1-0 in conference play en route to the program's seventh regular-season title.

Sheehan Earns BIG EAST Nod
On Monday, the BIG EAST announced Kaylie Sheehan as the BIG EAST Rookie of the Week.

Sheehan made an impact in her second week of collegiate action, helping Marquette to a 1-0-1 record. She netted her first career goal in the 79th minute at Wisconsin, scoring the equalizer to help MU earn a draw and their first result in Madison since 2001.

Hurd Earns Back-to-back Honors
Hurd helped Marquette to a 1-0-1 week, opening the week with a shutout in the first half of the Golden Eagles' 4-1 victory over Truman State before making five saves in a 1-1 draw at Wisconsin. Hurd's five saves against the Badgers helped Marquette earn its first result in Madison since 2001, as she limited Wisconsin to one goal on 15 shots faced.

Murray Called Up to National Team
Marquette forward Megan Murray, the Golden Eagles' leading scorer through four matches in 2026, has been called up to the Philippine Women's National Team (PWNT) ahead of the 2026 Asian Games.

Murray is scheduled to join the PWNT for its Pre-Asian Games Training Camp from Sept. 3-10 in Manila, Philippines, before traveling with the national team to the 20th Asian Games Aichi-Nagoya 2026, which will be held Sept. 14-Oct. 4 in Japan.

MU Facing Familiar Opponents
The Golden Eagles are familiar with both of this week's opponents, Milwaukee and Northern Illinois.

The Golden Eagles and Panthers have participated in a home-and-home series for most of the past 32 years.

MU and NIU will meet for the 10th time in the all-time series on Sunday.
