#MUBB Soars Over DePaul, 105-71, In BIG EAST Action

Kam Jones nets career-best 34 points, Kolek sets single-game assist mark

MILWAUKEE – The No. 7/8 Marquette University men's basketball team soared to a 105-71 win over DePaul Wednesday night in BIG EAST action at Fiserv Forum.
The Golden Eagles (20-6, 11-4 BIG EAST) were led by Kam Jones' career-best 34 points and guard Tyler Kolek finished with a school-record 18 assists in just 27 minutes of action.Â
MU had an explosive first half, going on a 30-7 scoring run shortly after the start of the first half. The Golden Eagles kept on the gas pedal, led by a 59.4% shooting effort.
DePaul (3-23, 0-15Â BIG EAST) was led in scoring by Jaden Henley, who had 17 points and four rebounds.Â
NOTABLES:
- The 62-26 points in the paint margin is the second highest margin this season.
- Marquette's 34-point win tied a program record in BIG EAST play, matching the 91-57 win at Georgetown on Feb. 3
- Tyler Kolek finished with a career-best 18 assists, including 13 in the first half, a new Marquette single-game record.
- Kolek's 18 assists are the second-most in a game in the NCAA this season (19, Jaquan Carlos–Hofstra, Drew Thelwell – Morehead State) and the second-most in the history of the BIG EAST (22 – Sherman Douglas, 1989, 18 – Pearl Washington, 1984).
- Kam Jones finished with career highs in points (34) and 3-pointers made (8).Â
- Tonight's 30-point halftime lead was Marquette's largest halftime lead since Nov. 25, 2020 vs Arkansas-Pine Bluff: 50-18 (+32). It is also the school's largest halftime lead in a conference game dating back to the 1996-97 season.
- Marquette's 59 points at halftime were its most since Dec. 5, 2015 vs Maine (61-29).
- Five of MU's players finished with 10+ points, including four starters. This is the third game this season in which that has happened.
- Marquette finished with 30 assists tonight, setting a new assist record against BIG EAST opponents and finishing three shy of the MU assist record.Â
- Marquette outscored DePaul 29-2 in fast break points.Â
