BIG EAST Big 12 Battle Makes Debut
  Â
The BIG EAST and Big 12 Conferences created a non-conference scheduling series for four seasons, beginning in 2019-20 and continuing through 2022-23. Â Ten games between the two leagues will be played each season during the month of December.Â
  Â
The series is played in the local markets of the home teams. Â An equal number of games shall be played in each conference's home market each year -- five for the BIG EAST and five for the Big 12.Â
Kansas State Series Dates Back To 1953
  Â
The all-time series with the Wildcats consists of just 11 games (Kansas State leads 7-4), but it does span back almost 70 years.
  Â
The two programs first met during the 1952-53 campaign, when Marquette dropped an 88-72 decision on the road to the then top-ranked Wildcats. Â The series is highlighted by a narrow 67-66 victory in the second round of the NCAA tournament in 1977 in Omaha, Nebraska. Â MU would claim the national title that season, downing North Carolina, 67-59 in the championship game.
  Â
In last year's 83-71 MU win over KSU at Fiserv Forum on Dec. 1, guard Markus Howard poured in 45 points on 11-of-17 shooting from the floor.Â
  Â
Hall of Fame coach Fred "Tex" Winter, who passed away in October of 2018, spent time as a head coach at both Marquette and Kansas State. Â He was the youngest coach in the country while at MU (1951-53) and led the program to the 1952 National Catholic Tournament title in 1952. Â He led the Wildcats to two Final Fours and eight Big Seven/Eight titles as head coach from 1954-68.Â
Cain Stuffs Stat Sheet In Jacksonville Win
  Â
Junior forward Jamal Cain has been a consistent performer off the bench early in 2019-20 and in the team's win over Jacksonville, he collected one of his best performances in a Marquette uniform.
  Â
In 27 minutes of action, Cain finished with eight points, 12 rebounds, three assists, two steals and a blocked shot. Â He shot 4-of-6 from the floor and his caroms total marked a career high and the most by a Marquette player since Sam Hauser grabbed 13 boards against Providence on Feb. 23, 2019.
  Â
Cain, who is 13-of-29 (.448) from the floor in eight games, scored just 21 baskets for Marquette in all of 2018-19.
