Marquette Downs Georgetown 5-2 In Home Opener

MU hosts UIC Saturday at 12 p.m. CT
The Marquette University men's tennis team (1-1) picked up its first dual win of the season Friday afternoon, downing Georgetown (0-2), 5-2, in the squad's home opener.
The Golden Eagles will continue their home schedule when they host UIC at 12 p.m. CT on Saturday, Jan. 26. MU has now won 12-straight decisions at home dating back to 2017-18.
Marquette opened the match by claiming the doubles point, earning wins at the No. 2 and 3 positions. Sophomore Luis Heredia Gomez and junior Luke Smrek provided the clinching score, downing their opponents 7-5 at No. 2.
MU continued its strong play into singles action, earning first-set wins at each of the six positions. The team quickly rattled off wins at the top four spots to secure the team victory, falling at No. 5 and 6 in tiebreakers.
