MU competed across the country
The Marquette University men's tennis team wrapped up play in a pair of weekend tournaments as the squad's fall season continued.
Senior Alvaro Verdu represented the program and the league at the Oracle ITA Masters in Malibu, Calif. The exclusive event featured the top-32 players in the country and Verdu earned an invitation as the 2018 BIG EAST Conference champion.Â
Verdu fell in the opening round of play to No. 2 seed Daniel Cukierman of USC, who is ranked 31st in the country, by a score of 6-1, 6-1. He was downed by Zdenek Derkas of Fresno State, 6-1, 6-4, in the consolation bracket.
A trio of players remained in town to compete in the 43rd Annual Milwaukee Tennis Classic. Junior Brett Meyers, sophomore Luis Heredia Gomez and freshman Fran San Andres participated in singles and doubles action.Â
