Heredia Gomez picks up three wins to lead the way
The Marquette University men's tennis team continued the fall portion of its 2018-19 campaign with competition this weekend at the ITA Midwest Regional, hosted by the University of Notre Dame.
The weekend's action was highlighted by sophomore Luis Heredia Gomez, who posted a trio of victories in the qualifying bracket to earn a spot in the main draw. He downed opponents from Chicago State, Notre Dame and Michigan State before falling to David Pata of Northern Illinois, 6-3, 7-6.
Heredia Gomez and junior Luke Smrek also earned a pair of doubles victories in the main draw before falling in the quarterfinals, 8-5, to a tandem from Western Michigan.
A total of eight players represented Marquette at the event and the Golden Eagles will continue the schedule Nov. 2-4 at the Minnesota Invitational.
