Junior (2018-19): First Team All-BIG EAST selection ā¦ BIG EAST Player of the Week honoree ā¦ Finished with 15 overall singles wins, including nine at No. 2 singles ā¦ Led the roster with 19 total doubles victories ā¦ Posted 8-3 record at No. 3 doubles in dual action ā¦ Earned third letter.
Sophomore (2017-18): First Team All-BIG EAST selection ā¦ Finished with 16-11 record in singles, including an 11-5 mark at the No. 2 position ā¦ Was also 2-0 at the top spot ā¦ Accounted for 11 total doubles victories, including nine in dual action with Scott Christian ā¦ Earned second letter.
Freshman (2016-17): Ā Named BIG EAST Freshman of the Year ā¦ All-BIG EAST Conference honoree ā¦ Finished second on the team with 17 singles wins, including 12 in dual play ā¦ Posted 11-7 mark at No. 2 position ā¦ Teamed up with Greg Anderson to post 8-4 mark in doubles ā¦ Majority of action came at No. 3 ā¦ Earned first letter.
High School: Attended Robert Bateman High School ā¦ Ranked as high as eighth in Ontario for his age group ā¦ ITF singles semifinalist, indoor provincials champion and OFSAA mixed doubles champion in 2016 ā¦ Member of Team Ontario and competes at the national tournament ā¦ U18 National Selection champion and finished in the top-10 at the U18 Canadian Nationals.
Personal: Born July 15, 1998 in Welland, Ontario ā¦ Son of Mike and Sanja Smrek ā¦ Father played college basketball at Canisius and earned pair of NBA titles (1987, 1988) with Los Angeles Lakers ā¦ Has one sister, Anna ā¦ Majoring in business economics & finance.
