Marquette Defense Stands Tall in Scoreless Draw at Georgetown

Marquette earns its first result against the Hoyas since 2015
WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Marquette University women's soccer team (4-1-6, 0-0-2 BIG EAST) played to a 0-0 draw against Georgetown (3-3-3, 0-1-1 BIG EAST) on Wednesday night at Shaw Field, extending its unbeaten streak to four matches.
The Hoyas held a 24-1 edge in shots and a 4-0 advantage in shots on goal, but freshman goalkeeper Mia Hurd made four saves to secure Marquette's fifth shutout of the season.
Georgetown outshot Marquette 8-1 in a scoreless first half. The Golden Eagles' lone shot of the night came from Haley Christianson, who sent her attempt over the crossbar.
The Hoyas increased the pressure after the break, recording 16 shots and nine corner kicks in the second half. Hurd made three saves in a seven-minute stretch, denying shots in the 64th, 69th and 70th minutes.
Georgetown came close to breaking through in the 79th minute when a shot struck the inside of the left post, but the attempt stayed out of the net. The Hoyas continued to push for a winner, but Marquette's back line held firm through the final whistle.
