VB Hosts Georgetown and Villanova in First BIG EAST Homestand

Golden Eagles start stretch of 8-of-12 matches at the Al McGuire Center this Friday.
The Marquette University volleyball team (8-6, 3-1 BIG EAST) is set to open conference action on their home court this Friday, Oct. 9 against Georgetown (10-5, 2-2 BIG EAST). First serve is set for 7 p.m. CT inside the Al McGuire Center. MU will wrap the weekend hosting Villanova (9-6, 2-2 BIG EAST) on Saturday, Oct. 10 at 5 p.m. CT. Both of the weekend's matchups will be streamed on ESPN+.
LAST TIME OUT
Marquette earned a dramatic five-set win over Creighton on Sunday, Oct. 4, snapping the Bluejays' 50-match BIG EAST winning streak and MU's seven-match skid in the series. Carson Tyler led the Golden Eagles with 21 kills, a career-high tying seven aces and 17 digs as MU rallied from a 2-1 deficit and fought off four Creighton match points in the fifth. The Golden Eagles recorded a season-high 11 aces, while Luanna Markus added 43 assists and 13 digs for her fourth double-double of the season.
HISTORY VS. GEORGETOWN
Marquette owns a 25-5 all-time record against Georgetown, including an 11-1 mark at home and a 14-4 record on the road. The Golden Eagles have dominated the series in recent years, winning 20 consecutive meetings from 2010-24, with 17 of those victories coming in straight sets. Georgetown snapped the streak with a five-set victory in Washington, D.C., on Oct. 24, 2025, its first win over MU since Sept. 26, 2010. Marquette has won 23 of the last 25 meetings overall and is 22-3 against the Hoyas since joining the BIG EAST for the 2005 season.
HISTORY VS. VILLANOVA
Marquette owns a 26-5 all-time record against Villanova and has won 10 of the last 11 meetings in the series. The Golden Eagles are 14-2 at home and 13-3 on the road against the Wildcats, with Villanova snapping Marquette's program-best 10-match winning streak in the series with a 3-1 win in the most recent meeting on Oct. 25, 2025. Marquette has been particularly dominant in straight-set contests, posting a 14-2 record in three-set matches against Villanova.
TYLER TAKES CHARGE
Junior outside hitter Carson Tyler has recorded double-digit kills in all 14 matches and leads Marquette with 239 kills (4.35/set), 282 points (5.13/set) and 29 service aces. She ranks 17th nationally and first in the BIG EAST in kills per set and 10th nationally and first in the league in points per set, while ranking 29th nationally with 0.53 aces per set. Tyler has three 20-kill performances over the last six matches, including a career-high 30 at DePaul and 21 kills, seven aces and 17 digs in the win at Creighton. Her seven aces tied for second-most in Marquette history, while the Creighton performance marked her sixth double-double of the year.
MARKUS THE MAESTRO
Freshman setter Luanna Markus leads the BIG EAST in both assists per set (9.35) and total assists (514), ranking 85th and 67th nationally, respectively. Markus has reached 30 assists in 12 of 14 matches, highlighted by a career-high 54 against St. Thomas, 47 at DePaul and 43 at Creighton. She has also contributed 110 digs, 37 kills and 34 blocks, and recorded her fourth double-double with 43 assists and a career-high 13 digs in Sunday's victory over the Bluejays.
WELGE'S WALL
Freshman middle blocker Molly Welge leads Marquette with 68 blocks (1.26/set), ranking 59th nationally and third in the BIG EAST in blocks per set and 50th nationally with 68 total blocks. Welge has recorded multiple blocks in every match this season and six or more on six occasions, including a career-high 10 against Milwaukee. She has also contributed 81 kills and continues to improve offensively, finishing with eight kills and no errors on 19 swings for a .421 hitting percentage at Creighton.
TANI FINDS HER GROOVE
Freshman Tani Juric ranks second on Marquette with 117 kills (2.13/set) and has provided an increasingly efficient option for the Golden Eagles. Juric has three double-digit kill performances, including 10 at Creighton, and has hit above .400 three times since Sept. 20. That stretch includes a career-best .533 against Milwaukee, .471 at UConn and .435 at DePaul.
DOOLAN'S ROLE CONTINUES TO GROW
Freshman Caydence Doolan has emerged as a consistent option on the pin after limited action early in the season. Doolan owns 65 kills in 31 sets (2.10/set) and has recorded three double-digit kill performances, including a career-high 17 against St. Thomas and 10 apiece at UConn and Creighton. She entered the St. Thomas match with only six kills on the year but has totaled 59 over Marquette's last seven contests.
EMI ANCHORS THE BACK ROW
Freshman libero Emi Juric leads Marquette with 177 digs (3.22/set) and ranks eighth in the BIG EAST with 177 total digs. Juric has reached double figures in digs 11 times, including a career-high 22 against St. Thomas, and added 12 digs in Sunday's five-set victory at Creighton. She has also contributed 43 assists and 17 service aces through 55 sets.
FRESHMEN FILL THE STAT SHEET
Marquette's freshman class has quickly assumed significant roles throughout the lineup. Markus leads the Golden Eagles in assists, Juric paces the team in digs and Welge leads MU in blocks, while Tani Juric ranks second in kills and Doolan has become a regular contributor on the pin. The group has played a major role in helping Marquette to a 3-1 start in BIG EAST action.
ACE IN THE HOLE
Marquette has recorded 84 service aces through 55 sets and ranks third in the BIG EAST at 1.53 aces per set. The Golden Eagles set a season high with 11 aces in Sunday's win at Creighton, their most since recording 11 against Georgetown on Oct. 24, 2025. Tyler led the effort with seven, while Emi Juric added two.
BATTLE-TESTED AT THE NET
The Golden Eagles have totaled 118.5 blocks and average 2.15 per set, ranking seventh in the BIG EAST in both categories. MU has reached double figures in blocks six times, highlighted by a season-high 16 at DePaul and 14.5 against Milwaukee. Marquette holds a slight advantage over its opponents in total blocks despite facing a nonconference schedule that included three top-six opponents.
BIG EAST ROAD GAUNTLET COMPLETE
Marquette returns home at 8-6 overall and 3-1 in BIG EAST play after opening conference action with four consecutive road matches. The Golden Eagles swept UConn and Providence, fell in five sets at DePaul and responded with a five-set triumph at Creighton. MU's victory in Omaha snapped Creighton's 50-match BIG EAST winning streak and marked Marquette's first win in the series since 2023 and first in Omaha since 2022.
MU will finish the conference schedule with eight of 12 matches inside the Al McGuire Center, including a season-long four-match homestand from Oct. 24 to Nov. 1
FIVE-SET FIGHT
Marquette has played five five-set matches this season and has won its last two after dropping its first three. The Golden Eagles rallied from a 2-0 deficit to defeat St. Thomas and overcame 1-0 and 2-1 deficits at Creighton. MU fought off four Bluejay match points in Omaha before scoring the final three points of a 19-17 fifth-set victory.
NO EASY OUT
Thus far, MU has not been swept through 14 matches this season, winning at least one set in every match, including in all three ranked matchups this season vs. Texas, at Stanford, and at Wisconsin.
HOME SWEET HOME
Marquette returns to the Al McGuire Center for the first time in BIG EAST action this season after beginning league play with four straight on the road. The Golden Eagles are unbeaten at home in 2026 and enter the Georgetown matchup having won each of their last 11 home meetings with the Hoyas.
FIGHT TO THE FINISH
Marquette showed its resilience in the five-set victory at Creighton, twice battling back from a one-set deficit before winning the decisive frame, 19-17. The Golden Eagles fought off four Creighton match points in the fifth set and trailed 17-16 before scoring the final three points, capped by a Julia Stanev-Luanna Markus block and Carson Tyler kill. The victory snapped Creighton's 50-match BIG EAST winning streak and gave MU its first win in Omaha since 2022.
ROAD TESTED
Marquette played 11 of its first 14 matches away from the Al McGuire Center, including nine true road contests and two neutral-site matches. That stretch featured trips to Stanford, Wisconsin, Illinois, UConn, Providence, DePaul and Creighton before the Golden Eagles return home to face Georgetown.
