
Men’s Golf Opens 2025-26 Season Sunday at Gopher Invitational

Fourth time in last five seasons MU plays in event
MILWAUKEE – The Marquette University men's golf team heads to Minnesota for its first event of the fall on Sunday, Sept. 7 and Monday, Sept. 8 at the Gopher Invitational at Windsong Farm Golf Club in Maple Plain, Minnesota.
The field consists of 15 teams including Marquette, Minnesota, Furman, Iowa State, Little Rock, Louisville, Miami (Ohio), Nebraska, Northern Illinois, Rutgers, St. Thomas, South Carolina, Texas A&M, West Virginia and Wisconsin.
The first round begins at 7:15 a.m. CT on Sunday morning with continuous play for 36 holes. Live scoring will be available through Scoreboard by Clippd.

Ryan Banas leads the Golden Eagles in the top spot in the first event of the fall. The junior played in ten events last season for MU with eight rounds par-or-better, including a second round 1-under 70 at Windsong last fall.
Mason Schmidtke will make his debut at the event. The junior was a member of the lineup in the last four events of the season in 2024-25 with a 72.81 stroke average.
Johan Widal, the lone senior in the lineup, was third on the team in 2024-25 with a 71.71 stroke average and was named to the All-BIG EAST First Team.
Vincent Cervantes' 17 par-or-better rounds tied for the ninth-best single season mark for an MU golfer and ties Hunter Eichhorn's 2017-18 campaign for the best mark by an MU freshman. The Chandler, Arizona native is the reigning BIG EAST Freshman of the Year.
Mischa Cardenas makes his collegiate debut on Sunday. The freshman from Geroldswil, Switzerland was the top-ranked Swiss under-25 golfer and earned medalist honors in 2024 at both the Swiss Golf National Championship and Swiss U-25 Championship.
