Marquette was represented by Emma Davis and Elise Barnstedt at the MTC
The Marquette women's tennis team continued its tournament season at Milwaukee Tennis Classic. The Golden Eagles were represented by Emma Davis and Elise Barnstedt throughout the weekend. Barnstedt found success on Friday and Saturday posting two wins in singles play. Barnstedt won both of her matches in straight sets defeating Audrey Smitek 6-4, 7-5 and Marielou Baudouin 6-3, 6-1.
MU coach Brett Barnett on the past weekend:
"We knew coming in how strong of a tournament the Milwaukee Tennis Classic is. It was great to see some different teams and get high level matches to see how Emma and Elise matched up. We played a little nervous early in doubles and played much better in our second match. Even though Emma came up a little short in her singles matches she showed me so much fight and grit. She's right there and played very well for parts of matches, just needs to close out opportunities better and a couple matches have different outcomes.
Elise played very well in her singles. She had opportunities in her first 2 matches to force third sets but couldn't close out games when things got tight. I am really proud of her for how well she played against two different Western Michigan opponents and picked up two high level wins. She got through some tough moments in her match Friday and played great when it mattered. Today, after a slow start she played smartly, aggressively and with a lot of energy. It was fun seeing her confidence grow and easily close the match out. Emma and Elise represented the program so well this tournament. It's been a great start to our season and I'm excited for our ITA Regional Championship in a couple of weeks."
Singles competition
