Golden Eagles Open Fall Campaign at Milwaukee Tennis Classic

White Earns Singles Win as Marquette Opens Fall Season
MILWAUKEE – The Marquette women's tennis team opened its fall campaign at the Milwaukee Tennis Classic this weekend. The Golden Eagles were represented by Emmerson White and Elise Barnstedt in singles and doubles competition.
"I'm really proud of how Emmerson and Elise competed and represented Marquette at the Milwaukee Tennis Classic," head coach Brett Barnett said. "The level of competition was extremely high, and it was good to gauge where we are this early in the fall. For Emmerson's first time representing Marquette, I could not be happier with how she played. She showed immediately how high a level she can play at, beating Wisconsin. She played and fought well all weekend and is someone I know can beat anyone she plays this year. She competed to the end and came up a couple points short against a top-three Badger player but has nothing to be disappointed about. We learned a couple of things we can work on to make her an even stronger player.
"Elise put her heart on the line for Marquette as she always does. She played really well against a two-time All-American from North Carolina and had chances to be up a set. She fought and competed all weekend, no matter what the score was. She was close to making the all-tournament team and will continue to quickly improve this fall as we get more reps and matches in. These two showed they can compete with anyone in the country, and I'm excited to see their continued growth as players this fall."
Singles Competition
The Golden Eagles will return to action Friday, Sept. 25-27 at the Gopher Invitational.
