Golden Eagles will learn NCAA tournament destination on Sunday

The No. 10/10 Marquette University men's basketball team (25-9, 14-6 BIG EAST) concluded play at the BIG EAST Tournament with a 73-57 loss against No. 2/2 UConn (31-3, 18-2 BIG EAST) on Saturday night in Madison Square Garden in the championship game.

The Golden Eagles, appearing in their second-straight title matchup, were paced by guard Kam Jones' 13 points and eight rebounds.

MU saw the Huskies pull away midway through the second half and trailed by as many as 16 points. The Huskies shot over 60 percent from the floor in the second half.

Marquette trailed 26-24 at the intermission after a first half dominated by the defense on both sides. The Golden Eagles held the Huskies to just 30.0 percent from the floor, but shot just 32.3 percent on their end of the court. Freshman guard Zaide Lowery accounted for five of the points off the bench. The first half featured nine lead changes and four ties.

Notables:

Marquette played its fifth game of the season (Kansas, Purdue, UConn – 3) against a team ranked No. 1 or 2 in the country, the first team to do that since 2000-01 and just 12^th team all-time
Marquette was playing in its second-straight championship game after claiming the regular season and tourney titles in 2022-23 (Villanova last team to repeat in 2019 – three straight)
Guard Kam Jones finished with a personal-best eight rebounds
Kam Jones and Oso Ighodaro named to BIG EAST All-Tournament team
