
No. 23 Volleyball opens home slate Tuesday against Loyola

The Golden Eagles begin a 10-match homestand against the Ramblers

MILWAUKEE – The No. 23 Marquette University women's volleyball team hosts Loyola Chicago on Tuesday evening for the first match of a 10-match homestand at the Al McGuire Center.
First serve against the Ramblers is set for 7 p.m. Central time and the match will air live on FloSports with Scott Sudikoff on the call. Live statistics will also be available through GoMarquette.com.
No. 24 MARQUETTE (3-1): The Golden Eagles went 1-1 over the weekend with a four-set loss to then-No. 6 Wisconsin on Friday night and a Sunday victory over Big South preseason favorite High Point. Sophomore Ella Foti earned BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll recognition on Monday after leading MU with 26 kills (3.25 per set) on .418 hitting against the Badgers and Panthers.
Marquette claimed the second set against UW in Madison on Friday night and was up eight points in the third frame before falling in four to the defending national champions. Foti posted 12 kills in that contest and followed it up with 14 against HPU on Sunday. Foti currently sits third in the BIG EAST in hitting percentage on the year (.363), while libero Carly Skrabak paces the conference with 5.00 digs per set (80 total) and Yadhira Anchante is fourth in assists per frame (9.38).
The Golden Eagles are 7-1 in home openers under head coach Ryan Theis, with their lone loss coming last season to then-No. 8 Kentucky, the reigning national champions. MU last opened its home slate against Loyola with a sweep on Sept. 8, 2017.
LOYOLA CHICAGO (3-3): The Ramblers are 3-3 on the year and are coming off a five-set loss at Michigan on Saturday night in which they led 2-1. Loyola owns victories over Bowling Green, Morehead State and Toledo with losses to power conference foes U of M, Tennessee and Purdue.
Former Neenah Rocket Addie Barnes leads LUC with 48 kills over 16 sets played (3.00 per frame), while sophomore Esma Ajanovic is hitting .379 with 2.43 kills per set. The Rockets are hitting a combined .244 while limiting their opponents to a mark of .210.
SERIES WITH LOYOLA: Former conference rivals and fellow Jesuit institutions, Marquette and Loyola have met on 25 previous occasions, most recently in MU's 2017 home opener. The Golden Eagles hit .370 in a 25-15, 25-11, 25-17 sweep in that contest, the lone matchup between the two programs in the tenure of MU head coach Ryan Theis. Marquette is 11-14 all-time against the Ramblers.
