MILWAUKEE – The No. 19 Marquette University women's volleyball team resumes BIG EAST Conference play against Butler on Saturday evening to the Al McGuire Center.
Opening serve is slated for 6 p.m. Central time and the match is broadcast live on FloSports with Bob Brainerd on the call. Live statistics are available on GoMarquette.com.
No. 19 MARQUETTE (10-1): The Golden Eagles have tied their best mark to start a season since joining NCAA Division I with 10 wins in their first 11 contests. MU most recently picked up a sweep of DePaul in its BIG EAST opener on Wednesday evening to pick up its 30th victory in the last 31 meetings with the Blue Demons.
MU is winners of eight straight matches and has won its first seven of a season-long 10 match homestand. The current homestand ends next weekend with matches against UConn and Providence.
Outside hitter Aubrey Hamilton leads the Golden Eagles with 131 kills (3.20 per set) on the year, while setter Yadhira Anchante has helped MU hit a BIG EAST-best .280. Marquette is also first in the league in kills, second in assists and third in service aces.
Middle blocker Carsen Murray currently sits second among qualified players in hitting percentage (.388), Anchante is third in assists per frame (10.15) and Murray also ranks sixth in blocks per set (1.10).
Hamilton was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll on Monday afternoon for her role in wins over Green Bay, then-No. 25 Illinois and Illinois State last week. The junior hit .316 in MU's 3-0 week with 3.09 kills per set and led the team in points.
BUTLER (6-6): The Bulldogs will face DePaul in Chicago on Friday night before making the trek up Interstate 94 to Milwaukee. Butler is 6-6 on the year and enters the weekend with three consecutive losses to Ohio, Missouri and Central Michigan last weekend at home. BU won its first four matches of the year before dropping six of its last eight.
The Bulldogs lead the BIG EAST in blocks with a 2.31 blocks per set average, but rank 10th out of 11 teams in hitting percentage (.176).
Outside hitter Mariah Grunze leads the squad with 3.52 kills per set and is second with 2.19 digs per frame. Preseason All-BIG EAST selection Jaymeson Kinley paces BU and is second in the league with 4.95 digs per set.
SERIES WITH BUTLER: Marquette is 17-9 all-time against Butler and is 16-3 since BU joined the BIG EAST for the 2013 campaign. The Golden Eagles have swept the last two meetings and have won seven of the last eight contests, save for a five-set loss at Butler on March 5, 2021.
