Golden Eagles to face St. John's Saturday in semis
The Marquette University men's tennis team (10-6) advanced to the semifinals of the 2021 BIG EAST Championship presented by Jeep with a 4-1 win over Villanova (9-11) Friday evening in Cayce, S.C.

With the win, the third-seeded Golden Eagles will face No. 2 seed St. John's at 9 a.m. CT on Sunday for a spot in the title match. Poor weather conditions in the area on Saturday forced the semifinals to be moved to Sunday. Marquette has played in each of the last five BIG EAST championship matches, claiming the title in 2018.

The Golden Eagles opened the match by claiming the doubles point with wins at the No. 1 and 3 positions and a quick straight-set by Fran San Andres pushed the team ahead 2-0. The team would have to battle for the remaining two points necessary for the team victory, finally clinching the decision with a 4-6, 6-1, 6-4 win at No. 2 by Luis Heredia Gomez.
