Marquette Earns 7-0 Win Over Villanova

MU extends home win streak to 17 matches
The Marquette University men's tennis team (8-6) defeated Villanova (8-6), 7-0, Saturday afternoon at Helfaer Tennis Stadium.
The victory allowed the Golden Eagles to extend their home-court winning streak to 17 matches, which dates back to the start of the 2017-18 campaign. MU, which hosts Youngstown State on Sunday at 1 p.m. CT, is now 3-0 against BIG EAST opponents (Georgetown, DePaul, Villanova) this season.
Marquette opened the match by claiming the doubles point. Sophomore Luis Heredia Gomez and freshman Fran San Andres made quick works of their opposing duo with a 6-1 win at No. 3 and senior Alvaro Verdu and junior Brett Meyers clinched the point, 6-4, courtesy of a double fault.
MU posted three straight-set wins to earn the team victory, posting victories by Verdu, San Andres and junior Luke Smrek.
The story of the day was Meyers, who trailed 5-0 in the second set after winning the first 6-4. He rattled off six-straight games before eventually winning in the tiebreaker, 7-0.
