MILWAUKEE - The Marquette University men's and women's track and field teams head to Michigan for the GVSU Big Meet, which is a two-day competition split up into two separate meets on both Friday, Feb. 8, and Saturday, Feb. 9.
The Big Meet will highlight the distance runners on GVSU's 300-meter track. Notable competitors for the Golden Eagles include Jon Klaiber and Max McClelland in the 3,000-meter run and 5k respectively. For the women, Breanne Marchan will take on the 50-meter dash, long jump, and high jump, while Mary Hanson tackles the mile and distance medley relay.
Events for the GVSU Big Meet-Friday kick off at 9 a.m. Central time with the men's and women's 5,000-meter run. Field events will begin at 11 a.m. CT. Additionally, field events for Big Meet-Saturday will begin at 8 a.m. CT followed by track events beginning at 9 a.m. CT.Â
Highlighting last week's meet was a BIG EAST weekly honors sweep from sophomore Joe Keys and freshman Ben Konopka. Keys broke or tied four personal bests while Konopka clocked the fastest 60-meter hurdles time in the BIG EAST since the league realignment.
Getting the week off is the shotput team, who will be back in action on Friday, Feb. 15, for the Wisconsin Shell Shocker in Madison.
