Tyler records a double-double as MU wins their second-straight
STANFORD, Calif.  – The Marquette University volleyball team (2-2) took down South Florida (1-4) in straight sets Saturday afternoon at Maples Pavilion.Â
Carson Tyler led Marquette with 14 kills and 10 digs, recording her first double-double as a Golden Eagle while hitting a season-high .407. Emma Parks added 11 kills and a .364 hitting percentage, while Tani Juric contributed seven kills. Luanna Markus paced the offense with a career-high 39 assists, one ace and eight digs, and Molly Welge tallied six kills, one ace and a team-high five blocks. As a team, the Golden Eagles hit .326 with 44 assists, six aces and eight blocks.Â
Marquette held advantages across nearly every statistical category, hitting .326 as a team  while limiting South Florida to a .163 hitting percentage. The Golden Eagles also finished with edges in digs (39-33) and service aces (4-2), while South Florida narrowly led the blocking battle, 9-5. Marquette's efficient offense was the difference throughout the match, posting a side out percentage of 74.6 percent and converting 42.5 percent of its point-scoring opportunities.Â
Marquette took control of the opening set early and never relinquished the lead, using a 7-1 run to turn a 4-4 tie into an 11-5 advantage. Luanna Markus directed the offense throughout the frame, helping the Golden Eagles hit efficiently while Carson Tyler, Emma Parks, Keira Schmidt and Tani Juric all contributed key kills. Marquette continued to build its cushion behind a Markus service ace and timely South Florida errors before closing out the set, 25-16.Â
After South Florida battled back from an early deficit to tie the set at 10-10, Marquette responded with timely plays down the stretch to regain control. The Golden Eagles erased a three-point deficit midway through the frame and used service aces from Emi Juric and Tyler, along with key kills from Tyler, Parks, Molly Welge and Tani Juric, to pull ahead late. Marquette broke a 20-20 tie by winning five of the final seven points and secured the set, 25-22.Â
Marquette faced its closest challenge of the match in the third set, but the Golden Eagles steadily pulled away after taking a slim 15-12 lead into the media timeout. Tyler sparked the offense with several key kills, while Parks, Welge and Tani Juric added timely points as Marquette maintained control. Back-to-back blocks by Tyler and Welge helped extend the advantage late, and the Golden Eagles closed the match on a 10-4 run, finishing off the 25-19 set victory on a kill from Parks.Â
