Tyler records fifth double-double of the season in third-straight sweep.
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Marquette University volleyball team (7-5, 2-0 BIG EAST) took down Providence (8-5, 0-2 BIG EAST) in three sets Saturday afternoon at Alumni Hall.
Carson Tyler led the Marquette attack with 18 kills while hitting .400 (18-4-35) and added 11 digs for a double-double. Caydence Doolan followed with eight kills and two blocks, while Tani Juric added seven kills on .250 hitting. Luanna Markus dished out 31 assists and added seven digs and two blocks, while Molly Welge paced the Golden Eagles with four blocks. Tyler and Avery Helms each recorded two service aces as Marquette hit .222 as a team and held Providence to .087 hitting.
Marquette broke open a tight opening set with a 5-0 run to turn an 8-9 deficit into a 13-9 advantage. Julia Stanev and Tani Juric tallied kills during the stretch, Stanev teamed with Caydence Doolan for a block and Doolan capped the run with a kill. The Golden Eagles continued to pull away late, using another 6-0 run behind the serve of Avery Helms to extend their lead to 24-13. Helms recorded two aces during the run, while Carson Tyler added a pair of kills. Tyler then closed the frame with her eighth kill of the set for a 25-14 Marquette victory.
Marquette overcame a slow start in the second set after Providence scored the first five points of the frame. The Golden Eagles responded with a 9-1 stretch to take a 9-6 lead, highlighted by a Keira Schmidt kill and block alongside Tani Juric. Providence eventually pulled even at 15, but Marquette never surrendered the lead, using a late 5-1 run to move ahead 24-19. Schmidt finished off the set with a kill from Luanna Markus to give the Golden Eagles a 25-19 victory.
Marquette maintained control for much of the third set and used a 5-0 run late in the frame to build a 20-13 advantage. Carson Tyler served back-to-back aces during the stretch before Molly Welge and Luanna Markus combined for a block. Providence responded with a late push, trimming Marquette's lead to 24-23 after the Golden Eagles had reached match point at 24-20. Following a Marquette timeout, Tyler ended the comeback attempt with a kill off a Markus assist to secure the sweep with a 25-23 third-set victory.

- Marquette has defeated Providence in straight sets in 21 consecutive meetings
- Carson Tyler recorded 18 kills and continued her double-digit kill streak, recording the mark in all 12 matches this season and every match dating back to Oct. 28, 2025.
- Tyler recorded her fifth double-double of the season, providing 18 kills and 11 digs
