Marquette Falls 6-1 to Georgetown

The Golden Eagles secured the doubles point but was shutout in singles play
MILWAUKEE, WIS. - The Marquette University women's tennis team dropped a 4-3 decision to Georgetown on Sunday afternoon.
The Golden Eagles opened the match by securing the crucial doubles point in fast fashion. Elena Duva and Maria Poon took the first win as they defeated Bhat/Garofolo-Ro 6-2. Aiyana Abbott and Luciana Mendoza sealed the point for Marquette as they cruised to a 7-5 victory over Chu/Novikov.
On the singles side, the Hoyas responded quickly taking the lead 2-1. It was Novikov that got Georgetown on the board with a 6-1, 6-4 win over Elise Barnstedt to level the score. Georgetown pushed out in front after Bhat defeated Abbott 6-2, 7-5.
A 4-7, 6-4, 1-6 loss by Poon gave Georgetown a 3-1 lead and put them one point closer to sealing the match. The Hoyas clinched the match with a loss by Davis on court one, where she fell 3-6, 6-3, 4-6 to Chu. Despite clinching, both teams decided to play out. Luciana Mendoza fell 0-6, 1-6 to Gilbert and Duva dropped the final match 3-6, 2-6 to Schaefer.
