T&F Completes Day One at BIG EAST Indoor Championships

Danny Olsen sets two new school records on opening day.
"Very solid first day, a bunch of big marks, highlighted by podium performances by Kaitlyn, Megan, and Henrik, as well as a pair of school records from Danny in the prelims. We are excited for more of the same tomorrow!" Directior of Track and Field & Cross Country Bert Rogers said.
Danny Olsen led the way for the Golden Eagles with a huge day in the sprints. He advanced to Saturday's finals in both the 400 meters and 200 meters after breaking the school record in each event. Olsen ran 47.39 in the 400 to finish second overall, then returned later to clock 21.29 in the 200 for another second-place finish and another program best. Teammate Frankie McGee also qualified for both finals, running personal-best times in each. He finished eighth in the 400 in 48.39, the seventh-fastest mark in school history, and sixth in the 200 in 21.63, moving to No. 3 all time. Blake Frea added a ninth-place 48.50 in the 400, the No. 8 MU mark.
Marquette placed three athletes in the top seven after the first four events of the men's heptathlon. Gus Kasun stands fourth with 2,843 points after PRs in the 60 meters and long jump. Henrik Rosario is fifth with 2,765 points, highlighted by a second-place long jump of 7.03 meters. Cole Donahe is seventh at 2,553 points after opening with a PR in the 60 meters.
In the women's pentathlon, Libby McCarthy recorded a personal-best 3,082 points to place seventh. She posted PRs in the 60-meter hurdles, high jump and 800 meters.
The Golden Eagles added another podium finish in the women's pole vault, where Kaitlyn Huebner cleared a personal-best 3.65 meters to take third and climb to ninth on MU's all-time list. Kassidy Papa and Alexis Boyer each cleared 3.30 meters to finish seventh and eighth.
Rosario added a third-place finish in the men's long jump with a mark of 6.96 meters. In the women's weight throw, Megan White earned another bronze medal for MU, finishing third with a toss of 16.73 meters. Ally Broaddus followed in sixth at 16.30 meters. In the men's weight throw, Sebastian Kubas threw a personal-best 15.87 meters for seventh.
Other performances included a seventh-place finish from Haley Schaffer in the women's long jump at 5.62 meters. The men's pole vault saw Mason Cornwell and Matthew Ferrario tie for the top MU mark at 4.35 meters, placing fourth and fifth, while Donahe cleared 4.05 meters for sixth.
On the track, freshman Kieran Petrie ran a personal-best 58.62 to lead Marquette in the women's 400 meters. In the women's 200 meters, Sophia Abraham ran a PR of 26.00, with additional personal bests from Sanai Baker and Norah Peiffle. Charlie Dutmer placed ninth in the men's 60-meter hurdles in 8.98. The men's distance medley relay of Patrick Clune, Andrew Klopcic, Ethan Aidoo and Will Allen closed the night with an eighth-place finish in 10:18.55.
