Marquette Takes Down DePaul 1-0, for Second Straight BIG EAST Win

Marquette wins its second straight BIG EAST match and extends its unbeaten streak to six games
CHICAGO — The Marquette University women's soccer team (6-1-6, 2-0-2 BIG EAST) won its second straight BIG EAST match with a 1-0 victory over DePaul (3-4-5, 0-2-2 BIG EAST) on Saturday afternoon at Wish Field.
Lilly Coats scored the game's lone goal in the 16th minute, finishing a play set up by Emily Fix and Megan Murray. Mia Hurd made two saves to record her sixth shutout of the season.
Marquette recorded three shots in the first 13 minutes before Coats found the net for her second goal of the season. The Golden Eagles added six corner kicks in the first half and held a 5-4 edge in shots at the break. Hurd made her first save in the fifth minute, turning aside a shot from DePaul's Katelyn Haiser.
Marquette controlled the second half, out shooting the Blue Demons 10-4 and putting four additional shots on goal. DePaul goalkeeper made five saves, including four after halftime, denying Fix twice and stopping attempts from Clare Shea and Coco Dorfman. Hurd preserved the shutout in the 89th minute, stopping a shot from the Blue Demons to secure the 1-0 victory.
