Leigh nets fourth goal of the season against former team
The Marquette University women's soccer team (4-3-1, 0-0-0 BIG EAST) wrapped up the non-conference portion of its 2025 campaign with a 1-1 draw vs. Loyola (5-1-2, 0-0-0 Atlantic 10) on Sunday afternoon at Valley Fields.
Â
Loyola moved ahead 1-0 just over five minutes into the match, tapping home a cross inside the far post on the team's first shot of the afternoon. Both teams would conclude the half with just a pair of attempts on frame.
Â
The Golden Eagles controlled possession for a majority of the second half and at one point had a penalty kick ruling reversed after replay after senior Molly Keiper appeared to be taken down in the box. Marquette finally found the back of the net at the 74:09 mark when forward Jocelyn Leigh, playing against her former team, headed home a cross from freshman Meg Decker.
Â
Marquette's goal was the first against the Ramblers in six matches. Loyola hadn't allowed an opponent to find the back of the net since a 2-0 loss against Northwestern on Aug. 14.
Â
UP NEXT: The Golden Eagles open BIG EAST play on Saturday, Sept. 20 at 7 p.m. when the team hosts Butler at Valley Fields.
