MU holds off Utah State in 3-2 victory to conclude tournament play
HONOLULU, Hawai'i – The Golden Eagles wrapped up play in the Rainbow Wahine Volleyball Classic on Sunday evening. MU used five sets to secure a 3-2 victory over Utah State, concluding their season-opening tournament with a 2-1 record.
Marquette started strong against Utah State, taking the first set 25-21. MU set the tone early with Natalie Ring and Hattie Bray combining for several key kills that held off the Aggies. Utah State bounced back in the second set, putting pressure on Marquette's defense and capitalizing on a few unforced errors to take it 25-23.
In the third, MU regained control with smart net play securing the set 25-23. Ring and Bray continued to dominate while Isabela Haggard's assists created opportunities that kept Utah State guessing. The fourth set was a tense, back-and-forth battle as the Aggies fought hard to force a fifth set, edging the Golden Eagles 25-23.
In the final set, Marquette showcased composure under pressure. The teams traded points as neither could build more than small lead with momentum swinging multiple times in match clinching moments. The Golden Eagles proved to be too much for the Aggies as they claimed the 20-18 win.
