CSC Release
GREENWOOD, Indiana – Marquette University men's golfer Max Lyons was named to the CSC Men's At-Large Academic All-America® First Team for NCAA Division I, the College Sports Communicators announced Wednesday.
Lyons graduated in May with a 3.98 cumulative grade point average as a finance major in MU's AIM - Accelerating Ingenuity in Markets - concentration, the CFA Institute's first-in-the nation partner, managing a portfolio of investments for MU. The native of Phoenix, Arizona is the first MU golfer to ever earn Academic All-America® honors and is selected in an at-large category that includes student-athletes in ice hockey, lacrosse, gymnastics, tennis, wrestling, fencing, volleyball and skiing, in addition to golf. He earned Second Team honors in the spring of 2024.
Lyons led the Golden Eagles to their sixth BIG EAST Conference championship this spring with a team-best 70.88 stroke scoring average, while posting 19 par-or-better rounds and 11 rounds in the 60s. His scoring average was 0.35 strokes under par per round and he led MU with four top-five finishes, six finishes inside the top 10 and nine top-20 results. For his athletic achievements, Lyons earned PING All-Midwest Region accolades this spring.
The senior climbed the MU career record book to end his career third in program history in career scoring average (72.07), par-or-better rounds (66) and average score to par (0.63).
Lyons is a four-time All-BIG EAST selection (three times on the first team) and was recognized as the 2021-22 BIG EAST Freshman of the Year during his first year on campus. During that spring he set the BIG EAST Men's Golf Championships all-time low round with a 64 in round one in 2022 at Callaway Gardens. He was also named the 2023-24 BIG EAST Sport Excellence Award winner for men's golf.
Lyons has been involved in a number of on- and off-campus volunteer activities in Milwaukee, including with Journey21, a nonprofit that provides supportive living and learning options for adults with intellectual or developmental disabilities (IDD). He is also a Marquette Men's Bible Study group leader, an Epikos Church Kids Ministry volunteer, and a Literacy Services of Wisconsin virtual homework helper.
The 2025 Academic All-America® Men's and Women's At-Large teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances in competition and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes at-large honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.
