MILWAUKEE– Marquette University defensive midfielder Peter Detwiler is a USA Lacrosse Magazine All-America Honorable Mention, the publication announced on Thursday.
Detwiler is a junior team captain who led MU defensive players with 34 ground balls this season. He was named to the USILA Team of the Week on April 2 after helping MU to a win over St. John's in its league opener with a goal, five ground balls and three caused turnovers.
The native of Devon, Pennsylvania picked up at least three ground balls in eight contests as Marquette's top short stick. He posted four ground balls and a caused turnover in the BIG EAST semifinals against then-No. 13 Georgetown and ended the year with three goals and seven caused turnovers.
Detwiler is only the second MU short stick to earn any kind of All-American honors and the first since head coach Jake Richard earned third team honors from the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association in 2016. He is one of just 13 athletes recognized at the position.
Detwiler follows current MU assistant coach Mason Woodward, who earned USA Lacrosse Magazine All-American recognition each of the last two seasons as Marquette's top close defenseman.Â
USA Lacrosse All-Americans are selected by the publication's staff and contributors.
