WLAX Hangs On For 16-15 Victory Over UConn Saturday

The Marquette University women's lacrosse team (9-5, 3-2 BIG EAST) continued BIG EAST play with a 16-15 win over UConn on Saturday at Valley Fields.

The Golden Eagles were led by Hanna Bodner, who had five goals, two caused turnovers and three draw controls.

Meg Bireley netted four goals and had one assist, including her 200th goal and 250th point of her career, becoming the first player in program history to hit both marks.

Sarah Beth Burns had a career-high four goals and a career-high five points. Tess Boehm had a career-high four assists.

Marquette took a 5-0 lead early and led 6-1 after the first quarter. A six goal second quarter from UConn closed the gap to 11-7 at the break.

The Golden Eagles led 13-10 going into the fourth before UConn scored the first two goals of the final frame to cut the deficit to one. Hanna Bodner and Meg Bireley scored MU's three goals in the fourth as MU hung on for the one goal victory.

UConn (9-5, 2-2 BIG EAST) were led by Emma Dacey, who had three goals and two assists.

The Golden Eagles are now 2-0 in one goal games this season after the 18-17 overtime win over Arizona State on March 25.
Meg Bireley became the 11th active player to hit 250 career points.
Bireley also became the sixth active player to hit 200 career goals.
Bireley scored four goals and has 57 on the season, the fourth-most goals in a single season in program history. Bireley has the most goals scored in a single season at 69 during the 2024 season.
Bireley has 72 points on the season, the third most points in a single season in program history.
