Coon leads women's team and Parrell top finisher for men's squad
The Marquette University men's and women's cross country teams continued their respective seasons Friday afternoon at the Joe Piane Invitational, hosted by the University of Notre Dame.
Â
The men's team finished 12th in the 21-team field in the 8K Gold Run and the women's squad claimed 15th out of 21 programs in the 5K Gold Run at Burke Golf Course.
Â
"It was another unseasonably warm day, so that definitely put some pressure on performances, but overall it was a great day," head coach Jack Hackett said. "It was a big improvement from last year, on both the men's and women's sides and I am excited to see that trend continue."Â
Â
The University of Chicago earned first place in the men's race and the University of Windsor did the same on the women's side.
Â
Junio Nick Parell was the top finisher on the men's side, claiming 28th in the field with a time of 25:02.4. Junior Emma Coon crossed the finish line first for the women's team with a time of 18:07.4 to earn 24th place. Coon was 114th overall at the 1K mark, but finished strong to earn a top-25 finish.
