The No. 5/5 Marquette University men's basketball team (22-7, 13-5 BIG EAST) continued BIG EAST Conference play with an 89-75 setback at No. 12/12 Creighton (22-8, 13-6 BIG EAST) Saturday afternoon in CHI Health Center Omaha.

Junior guard Kam Jones led the way with 23 points and forward David Joplin chipped in 21 points. Guard Stevie Mitchell added 15 points and nine rebounds (tying personal best).

Guard Tyler Kolek (oblique) and forward Oso Ighodaro (illness) both missed Saturday's game, marking the first time in the last three seasons either player has missed a game.

The Bluejays led by as many as 10 points early in the second half, but it was a one-possession game with 5:34 left. The Golden Eagles remained within striking distance in the closing minutes until Creighton knocked down three-straight 3-pointers to pull away.

The Golden Eagles trailed 42-40 at the intermission, despite the Bluejays knocking down 8-of-16 shots from deep. Marquette shot 48.6 percent from the floor overall (12-of-19 inside 3-point line) in the opening half and six of the seven players to see action scored.
