Golden Eagles host Villanova on Thursday night
The Marquette University women's soccer team (4-8-3, 1-3-1 BIG EAST) opened a two-match homestand Sunday afternoon with a 3-0 loss versus UConn (8-3-3, 2-2-2 BIG EAST) at Valley Fields.
Â
Marquette trailed 2-0 at the intermission after UConn was able to take advantage of its best two opportunities of the opening half. The Golden Eagles had just a pair of shots in the first 45 minutes, one on target.
Â
The Huskies finished with a 14-7 advantage in shots, but Marquette concluded with a 7-4 margin in corner kicks, but was unable to create a quality chance from those opportunities.
Â
Senior midfielder Tess O'Connell led the way with three shots, all on goal, and netminder Chloe Olson made three saves on the afternoon.
"I thought UConn did a really good job of taking advantage of its moments," head coach Chris Allen said. "I thought we generated enough set piece opportunities in the first half, but was disappointed with a lack of intensity and execution in those situations."
