WTEN Holds Off NIU for 4-3 Win

Kaiser clinches team win at No. 6
The Marquette University women's tennis team (4-3) held off Northern Illinois (1-4) by a score of 4-3 Sunday night in non-conference action at Helfaer Tennis Stadium.
Marquette opened the match by claiming the doubles point, clinching at the No. 3 position with a 6-2 decision by Tiana Windbuchler and Andie Weise. Also picking up a win was the tandem of Giulia Turconi and Emilija Kojcic, 6-3 at No. 2.
Windbuchler moved MU ahead 2-0 with a quick 6-0, 6-3 decision at No. 5, but the remaining matchups were a battle for the Golden Eagles. Weise pushed the advantage to 3-0 with a roller coaster win, 6-1, 1-6, 6-0 at No. 2.
The Huskies would rally to tie the score at 3-3, however, forcing the match to be decided at No. 6. Fortunately for MU, Lara Kaiser claimed a 6-3, 0-6, 6-3 win for the Golden Eagles.
The Golden Eagles return to action next weekend with a two-match road swing against Creighton (March 5) and Omaha (March 6).
