Morsell scores career-high 26 points
MILWAUKEE – The Marquette University men's basketball team defeated New Hampshire, 75-70, on Friday night to record back-to-back wins to open the season for the fourth consecutive year.
Darryl Morsell led the Golden Eagles (2-0) with a career-high 26 points, five assists and three rebounds. The Maryland transfer went 8-for-12 from the field, made all seven of his free throw attempts and is now averaging 23.5 points through his first two games in the Blue & Gold.
Marquette scored 24 points in the paint and totaled 21 fastbreak points. MU also took advantage at the charity stripe, converting 24 of 32 free throws.
Jayden Martinez paced the Wildcats (1-1) with 21 points. Nick Guadarrama added 15 to go along with eight rebounds and four assists, and Qon Murphy contributed 10.

Notables:
- The Golden Eagles trailed by six with just under three minutes left before half, but a 13-2 run spearheaded by Morsell and Justin Lewis sent MU into the break with a 34-29 lead.
- Both teams struggled early, as Marquette shot 2-for-13 (15%) and the Wildcats went 4-for-21 (19%) from the field through the first 10 minutes of the first half.
- A 15-4 run that started early in the second half allowed the Golden Eagles to pull away and take a 53-44 lead, which was their largest lead of the night.
- UNH found its rhythm in the second half, going 50% from the field and 54% from behind the arc.
- Lewis has now posted back-to-back double-doubles, tallying 16 points and 10 rebounds against the Wildcats following his first collegiate double-double against SIUE on Tuesday.
- Oso Ighodaro hauled in a career-high 12 rebounds in the win.
- MU trailed 62-59 with six and a half minutes left to play, but outscored New Hampshire 16-8 to close the game.
