The Golden Eagles are sending four to the historical tourney
MILWAUKEE – The Marquette University women's tennis team will open play in the 43rd Annual Milwaukee Tennis Classic (MTC) this weekend (Sept. 19-24).
The 2018 MTC continues with the original format from last year, with the women's draw at Western Racquet Club in Elm Grove, WI. The finals are being held for the first time at the Al McGuire Center on Sunday, September 23. The tournament draws have been expanded to 64 for singles and 32 for doubles.
Marquette will send four from the women's squad to compete in this year's MTC. Sophomore Natalija Popovic, junior Fleur Eggink, freshman Alexandrina Chinikova and freshman Elisabeth Desmarais will represent the Golden Eagles.
The first round of 64 singles is slated for Thursday, September 20 followed by the round of 32 doubles that same day. The main draw for singles will commence on Friday, September 21 followed by the singles consolation round and the main doubles draw.
Championship Sunday (Sept. 23) is slated to begin with the women's doubles finals at 9:30 a.m. CT and the women's singles finals at 12:30 p.m. CT.
In 2017, the Milwaukee Tennis Classic partnered with the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, which designated the MTC as an ITA Gold-Level Event, thus, MTC singles winners will receive wild cards into the ITA National Tournament in Surprise, Arizona from Nov. 7-11.
