Official BIG EAST Release
NEW YORK - Marquette University junior Cate Soccodato reeled in her first-ever BIG EAST Attacker of the Week honor following another career day that led to another Golden Eagle victory on Saturday, the league office announced today.
Soccodato scored a career-high five goals to lead Marquette to a win at Villanova on Saturday and remain unbeaten in BIG EAST play (2-0). The junior added an assist to give her two-straight games with at least six points after a seven-assist effort in the team's win over Cincinnati previously.
Trailing, 8-7, at halftime, Soccodato scored four times in the second half, including three scores during the team's 7-0 run that erased the deficit. She scored on all five shots she took on the afternoon and her score with 19:46 remaining proved to be the game-winner.
The Huntington, New York, native ranks third on the team with 34 points on 14 goals and 20 assists. Soccodato and senior Riley Hill (24 assists) are two of the top-three leading assist-getters in the BIG EAST. They also rank 16th and fifth in the nation, respectively.
The Golden Eagles put their unbeaten BIG EAST record on the line against Temple on Saturday (2 p.m. CT) at the Valley Dome, where they are 5-0 this season.
