
Marquette Tops Georgetown, 3-0

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The Marquette University women's volleyball team surged back in the winning column with a 3-0 sweep (25-17, 25-12, 25-16) over Georgetown on Sunday afternoon at McDonough Arena.
The Golden Eagles (14-6, 8-1) were led by Allie Barber with 15 kills and a .406 clip, while Jenna Rosenthal had a stellar .714 hitting percentage with 10 kills and no errors. Setter Lauren Speckman dished out 40 assists, while freshman libero Martha Konovodoff collected 13 digs.
Marquette claimed the first set, 25-17 and used a .478 hitting percentage in the second frame to win, 25-12. The Golden Eagles totaled seven service aces in the set, including three from Konovodoff. The Hoyas pushed back in the third set, but Marquette used a stretch of small scoring runs to hold on and take a 25-16 victory, though the score was tied six times with two lead changes.
Georgetown (7-14, 1-8) was led by Alyssa Sinnette with 11 kills, while two other Hoyas recorded five kills each.
As a squad Marquette had an efficient hitting day with a .402 clip and totaled 11 service aces, while holding Georgetown to .202 combined.
Marquette will return home and host Xavier Friday, Oct. 20 at 7 pm, followed by Butler on Saturday, Oct. 21 at 6 p.m. CT. Friday's match will air live on the BIG EAST Digital Network.
