
MU Heads to Berkeley for the Cal Nike Invitational

MILWAUKEE - The Marquette University women's tennis team will travel to the west coast this weekend, as they compete in the Cal Nike Invitational, Sept. 27-29.
The 2013 Cal Nike Women's Invitational will begin with one round of doubles followed by two rounds of singles slated to begin at 10 a.m. Central time on Friday, Sept. 27. Saturday will consist of two rounds of doubles followed by one round of singles, and Sunday will have the finals for doubles and semifinals and finals for singles.
The three-day tournament, hosted by UC Berkeley, will have competition among 16 teams from coast to coast, including Armstrong Atlantic State, BYU, UC Davis, Fresno State, UW-Milwaukee, Nevada, Pacific, Sacramento State, San Jose State, UC Santa Barbara, Santa Clara, Saint Mary's and USC.
This marks the first time the Golden Eagles will play in the annual Cal Nike Invitational. They will face four schools who have top 25 ranked singles players two schools who have top 25 ranked doubles pairs, according to the ITA preseason rankings.
MU is coming off play in the 38th Annual Milwaukee Tennis Classic. Junior Ana Pimienta dropped one singles match on three days of play for the Golden Eagles, defeating Western Michigan's Nini Sujashvili 6-3, 6-4, and Colorado State's Natalie Heffron in a battle, 4-6, 6-2, 1-0 (8).
After attending the Cal Nike Invitational in Berkeley, Calif., MU will head to Ann Arbor, Mich., for the ITA Regional Championships Oct. 10 through Oct. 14.
