
Marquette Hosts Villanova on Tuesday

MILWAUKEE--The Marquette women's basketball team looks to extend its four-game winning streak on Tuesday as it welcomes Villanova to the Al McGuire Center for a BIG EAST homeopening contest. Tip-off is slated at noon and will be streamed live and for free at gomarquette.com
The Golden Eagles (10-2, 1-0) opened BIG EAST play with a 61-59 victory at Butler on Dec. 28. It was a tight battle that had nine lead changes with neither team scoring in the final 1:54 of play. Junior Apiew Ojulu and sophomores Brooklyn Pumroy and Lauren Tibbs, each recorded 11 points and seven rebounds to lead MU.
Marquette is led on the season by senior Katherine Plouffe with 18.1 points per game and 11.0 rebounds per contest, and classmate Katie Young who averages 13.5 points and 9.7 boards per contest.
Villanova dropped its first league contest, a 65-58 decision at Creighton. Katherine Coyer led the Wildcats with 16 points, while Devon Kane dished out six assists. Kane leads Villanova with 10.9 points each night, while Caroline Coyer averages 10.7 points.
MU owns a 7-3 record in the all-time series with the Wildcats, including five straight. Villanova has not won a contest over the Golden Eagles since a 46-45 battle on Feb. 10, 2009.
