MILWAUKEE -- Heading down the final stretch of the outdoor season, the Marquette University track and field teams will compete this weekend at the Wisconsin Twilight meet at the University of Wisconsin's Dan McClimon Track in Madison.
The decathlon and the throws events begin Friday. Day two of the decathlon starts at 11:15 a.m. on Saturday. Open field events kick off at 2 p.m., followed by the running events at 5 p.m.
"We're bringing a pretty good-sized squad, but we're not bringing everybody," said head coach Bert Rogers, whose teams competed last weekend at the BIG EAST Outdoor Championships. "This is one of the last shots to qualify for the [NCAA] regional and it's more of a wrap up after conference."
Marquette has already had five women qualify for the NCAA Mid East Regional, May 30-31, in Fayetteville, Ark. - Jayne Grebinski (5,000 meters), Erynn James (high jump), Cassie Peller (1,500 meters), Carrie Schmid (pole vault) and Rachel Thiel (shot put).
"It's a meet that within the state, so a lot of friends and family will be there to watch and it's a good meet to wrap up the team portion of our outdoor season."
Also competing this weekend will be teams from Edgewood College, Northern Illinois, Northern Iowa, UW-Platteville and UW-Whitewater. Admission is free. Free parking is available Saturday in lot 60, located just north of the track.
