MILWAUKEE - The Marquette cross country teams head to Bloomington, Ind., on Saturday, Nov. 10, to run in the NCAA Great Lakes Regional race.
The race will take place on the Indiana Cross Country Course with the men's 10K starting at 11 a.m. ET, followed by the women running a 6K beginning at 12:15 p.m. ET.
Both teams will be competing for an at-large big to the NCAA Championships as a team, but individuals are eligible to qualify. The top-four runners who are not a member of a team that advances will qualify to the NCAA Championships individually.
"On both sides, our goal is to finish higher than our ranking," head coach Mike Nelson said. "We want to qualify to the championships as a team or send some individuals. We don't want this to be our last meet."
There are nine regions in the U.S., with the top-two teams from each region advancing. The Golden Eagle women are currently ranked fifth in the region, while the men's team is ranked 10th. If the women finish ahead of Wisconsin, they will advance as a team.
The Great Lakes Region is one of the most competitive regions in the nation, boasting some of the top teams. Fellow BIG EAST schools, Cincinnati and Notre Dame also run in the Great Lakes Region.
"I want each runner to run the best race they can at the most important meet of the year," Nelson said.
