MILWAUKEE - The Marquette women's basketball team made its debut in the USA Today/ESPN Coaches' poll this week in the 25th spot, and climbed to no. 21 in the Associated Press poll announced this week. It is the first time since the 1999-2000 season Marquette has been ranked in both national polls. MU was ranked 24th in both the AP and Coaches' poll last on Feb. 28, 2000.
Marquette won back-to-back games last week to improve to 9-1 on the season and extend its winning streak to eight games. The Golden Eagles opened up BIG EAST play on December 6 with a rout of West Virginia, 74-50, at the Al McGuire Center, and traveled to Oakland to defeat the Golden Grizzlies, 65-51, on Dec. 9. MU's win at Oakland marked head coach Terri Mitchell's 200th career victory.
The Golden Eagles will be back in action Sunday, Dec. 17, when they host Gonzaga at 2 p.m., at the Al McGuire Center.
Sunday is Mascot Mania and Krystal Ellis Trading Card Day. It is also Racine County Day. Residents of Racine County can bring a valid ID to the game and receive half price admission! Fans, help others this holiday season and bring a canned food item and receive half price admission.
