Nicholas Boulieris of Lake Forest, Ill., and Mark Rutherford of Calgary, Alberta, will be a part of the 2006-2007 Golden Eagles.
?I am really happy about both of the kids we were able to sing during the early signing,? head coach Steve Rodecap said. ?Both guys will be big contributors as freshman, and will be great additions to our program.?
Boulieris attends Libertyville High School, where he has lettered in tennis and was named All State Athlete by the Illinois High School Association in tennis. He also excels in the classroom where he has received the Honor Award for Math-A-Thon for St. Jude Children?s Research Hospital and also was an assistant teacher at the ?Write Place? Literature Teaching Program.
?I chose Marquette University because it is mostly known for its prestigious academics,? Boulieris said. ?With a combination of strong academics and its growing tennis program, Marquette was definitely the best choice for me. The team, coaches and academic staff were by far the most impressive combination.?
Rutherford recently won the doubles of the Canadian ITF Grade 4 event. He also claimed an ITA Summer Circuit Doubles title, teaming up with his brother Scott, who played for Wisconsin.
?I really felt that both of these guys were good team guys and fit our system well,? said Rodecap. ?They both are good kids and good students and will be very successful as student athletes over the next four years.?
